The name of the Penukonda
fort is mentioned as Ghangari in inscriptions.
The structure of the fort shows the splendid sculptural beauty
of old times. It is said
that the fort has 365 temples
inside in the beginning. However, most of the temples

were
destroyed in a number of attacks by several rulers. Of them
Lord Yoga Narasimhaswamy, Lord Kasi Viswanatha and Lord Yogarama
temples are important ones. |
Thimmamma
Marrimanu
| Ananthapur district is
known for its richness in having world famous tourist centres.
One such tourist centre is Thimmamma Marrimanu. It is
35 km. away from Kadiri. |
|
If we go by the version of the local people
and the history, the tree is named after "Thimmamma" who was
considered to be the representative of the Almighty. The people of this
area strongly believe that if a childless couple worship "Thimmamma"
they will have a child the very next year. A big ‘Jatara’ is conducted here on the day of "Sivarathri"
when thousands and thousands of people flock here to worship ‘Thimmamma’
on this occasion.
Those who wish to visit the "Gutibayalu"
can travel either from Ananthapur or Puttaparthi or Hindupur and can
reach Kadiri. The APSRTC plies daily services to Gutibayalu from Kadiri.
After reaching the tree, the tourists can take rest at the tourism department's
tourist lounge at Thimmamma Marrimanu.
